Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, starring Matthew McConaughey, has had audiences – including myself – on the edge of our seats. The film has been a hit in the box office since it’s debut Nov. 7.
The movie takes place on a near future Earth that is rapidly becoming unsuitable for humanity. McConaughey’s character, Cooper, is a farmer trying to produce food for a starving Earth when asked to pilot a team of NASA explorers in search of a planet that could sustain human life.
On this journey, McConaughey experiences a wide range of emotions, from the thrill of traveling through a black hole into another galaxy, to the pain of not knowing when he will see his children again.
I believe this was some of McConaughey’s best work as an actor. He was able to portray the sensitivity and love a true father would express when embracing his children before embarking on his quest. He also showed true fear during times of uncertainty and panic on board the space craft Endurance.
McConaughey was not the only famous name in the cast. Actors Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine also play a major role in the film.
Caine stars as NASA director, Dr. Brand, who is in charge of the mission and over sees the journey on Earth. Hathaway plays his daughter, Amelia Brand, who is on board the Endurance, graced with the task of saving mankind.
Both get tested in many ways during the journey, and both put forth an award-winning effort trying to show how stressful trying to save the world can be.
The movie had my attention from the opening scene until the end. It was filled with suspenseful and heartfelt moments that almost had me in tears. The graphics for the movie were unbelievable. I was in awe of how they were able to portray space and make it feel like the audience was in the spacecraft with them.
The only downfall was there weren’t enough action scenes of the crew flying through space or on a new planet showing the wonderful galaxy that the director and his team created. All in all, I still enjoyed the film and would recommend the movie.
