With the Ole Miss football season in full effect, this is the busiest time of year for Sweet T’s Bakery on Jackson Avenue.
Owners Jeff and Kathleen Taylor once baked cakes as a hobby.
“We started just baking for friends and family, but we always had to have a side job,” owner Jeff Taylor said. “I owned a cabinet shop for a while, but that got slow, so we took the opportunity to start our own bakery.”
Sweet T’s Bakery offers a wide selection of products. However, they are best known for specialty cakes. Jeff Taylor can sculpt anything from football helmets and extravagant wedding cakes to a detailed Colonel Reb.
“Our sculpting cakes are mainly what people come here for,” co-owner Kathleen Taylor said. “We have made football jerseys, helmets, and stadiums for the football season. My husband has even made a large purse.”
University of Mississippi junior Jada Walker, 20, loves to stop by for a sweet treat from time to time.
“Their desserts are really good, and the owners are really nice,” she said. “You can tell that they love what they do. Their bakery is very welcoming and is actually my favorite place to go for a quick dessert.”
Sweet T’s Bakery plans to continue to grow, and someday, with the help of their children, open other locations.
