Video: Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi hosts walk to raise funds and awareness

The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi hosted its seventh and final Mississippi Walk For Diabetes for the year of 2016 in November.

Mary Fortune, executive vice president of the foundation, estimates about 200 people turned out for the 5k walk. The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi has raised about $200,000 for Mississippi diabetes patients after all seven walks.

Proceeds are used statewide to help diabetes patients of both types afford the sometimes expensive assistance and medications they need.

For a registration fee of $20, walkers started at the Lyceum, made their way to University Avenue, and looped around the Square, before crossing the finish line back at the Lyceum. After the walk, hot dogs and snacks were provided.
