The NFL National Anthem protest is an ongoing topic. Many athletes protest by taking a knee during the anthem, and some hold their fist in the air during the song.
Some find this disrespectful, while others support the cause of bringing attention to injustice for African Americans in the U.S.
To kneel during the anthem is disrespectful. Everyone has a right to express themselves. However, I think there is a better way to fix injustice for minorities.
Professional athletes, who make a lot of money, could easily donate it to start their own campaign to help correct what is happening in our country. Instead, taking a knee during the National Anthem upsets many and doesn’t help, other than getting people’s attention.
This started last year with Colin Kaepernick, the first athlete to take a knee during the anthem. He has been a free agent for more than a year now, and it looks like he is starting to regret his decision.
Kaepernick may be better than some NFL quarterbacks, but with the negative publicity he brings, many teams do not want him in their organization. This year, he has no team to play for and no NFL job.
I understand where Kaepernick is coming from and his supporters. They want justice. They feel standing for the anthem makes no sense because it represents equality, and that is something some minorities feel they do not have.
I also understand that professional athletes are on a big stage, and their actions are watched by many. They are taking a stand for something they believe in to get their point across.
However, I think it is disrespectful to kneel during the National Anthem. People who have lost limbs defending our freedom cannot stand for the anthem. And these athletes, who get paid mega bucks, could easily do something other than kneeling. They take a knee during an event when there are soldiers on the field behind them. I cannot fathom how someone could do such a thing.
I think you should always stand for the anthem and show respect for the men and women who fight for our freedom. What they do is brave and something everyone should be thankful for.
The Dallas Cowboys did it best in my opinion. They all took a knee as a team before the anthem, then got up when they were singing it.
Clearly things need to change in our society, and there are many problems with police brutality. I just wish this did not have to happen in football.
I really don’t like discussing politics or racial issues because it always leads to arguments. Now, during football games, I have to hear the announcers and fans give their input about the situation when I would just like to watch football in peace.
I’m pretty sure this will go away soon, but right now, it is pretty annoying that our country is on edge and that every little thing bothers everyone and creates a huge problem. Hopefully, things will be resolved so football can return to normal.
