UM students use their passion and talents to put on NewsWatch Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. Students interested in broadcast and NewsWatch can apply and interview to get on the team.
NewsWatch is a student run organization within the Student Media Center that allows students to pursue real life exposure to the media and broadcast world. Many broadcast students get involved in NewsWatch, which allows them to get real life experience.
Abbie McIntosh, a Texas native, fell in love with Ole Miss after she saw the Student Media Center. She first became interested in broadcast while in high school, and was excited to get into the field while attending Ole Miss.
McIntosh serves as the station manager and has a lot of responsibilities. She ensures that the show is ready to air at 5 p.m. sharp. McIntosh makes sure anchors have stories to discuss during the show, and that the slides are prepared and correct.
McIntosh has enjoyed her time at NewsWatch. She has found her love for broadcast within the Student Media Center and has Ole Miss to thank for that.
Another UM student, Karsyn King, a North Carolina native, was inspired by McIntosh to apply for NewsWatch as a freshmen. King worked her way up after getting the job on the team, and is now the digital content producer. King works behind the scenes to run cameras and wherever she is needed to help the show run smoothly.
King originally came to Ole Miss as a business major, but after applying and securing a spot on the NewsWatch team, she fell in love with broadcast. King plans to pursue a career in broadcast journalism after graduation.
The NewsWatch team works hard, and everyone has a role in making sure the show runs smoothly every time. Both students shared their thanks to Ole Miss NewsWatch in allowing them to get real life experience within the broadcast world.
Be sure you tune in Monday through Friday at 5 p.m. to get your dose of daily UM news.
