A young Minnesota native and entrepreneur with Oxford ties has created her own company helping an average of 30 clients grow and improve their brands using social media and SEO.
University of Mississippi School of Journalism and New Media student Claire Ficek, 18, is the CEO and founder of Social By Claire.
“Social By Claire focuses on branding by clearly defining and establishing a brand presence on social media,” Ficek said.
The company’s second focus is social following, or reaching more clients and customers. Employees also work to create a customized social media strategy for clients.
“Our team is dedicated to helping other businesses enhance the brand experience on social media,” she said.
Ficek’s team includes two client managers and one blog expert.
Kalie Stewart is the blog expert. She shows clients how to optimize their website and blogs through key competitor analysis. Stewart attends North Central University and majors in marketing.
Mady-Kate Tatum, another UM freshman, is the content creator for Social By Claire.
“I have lived in Mississippi my whole life,” said Tatum, “and I am currently majoring in business. I specialize in branding, and I also create visual pieces for Social By Claire.”
Katie Harder and Ellie Anastasia are client managers. Anastasia creates content and posts to fit the client’s brand. Harder helps clients to create and solidify their brand experience by creating visuals and posts.
Ficek’s client managers handle posting, engagement, and other social media needs. Her blog expert knows about search engine optimization, or SEO, and how to get your website ranked on Google.
“I was born in Minnesota and left behind all of my friends, boyfriend and family because I wanted to further my career and schooling at an amazing school like Ole Miss.” Ficek said.
She said she came to UM because of the reputable IMC program, she fell in love with the campus, and her grandparents live here.
“I like to have the familiarity of home, yet I wanted to get away from home to start brand new and experience the world on my own,” she said.
Ficek joined Chi Omega, a women’s fraternity, during her first semester of freshman year and became their webmaster. She is majoring in integrated marketing communications, or IMC, with a minor in business.
“I went into IMC and business because I love social media,” she said. “I am passionate about social media and helping other entrepreneurs grow their business and brand experience.”
In high school, Ficek was student body president and spoke at graduation on behalf of the student senate. In high school, she interned at Chiro For Moms, a chiropractor for women, mothers and children in Wayzata, Minnesota.
She also runs a blog she started in 2021, posting weekly life experiences and advice about how to better your brand. This includes ways to increase website conversations, create a brand strategy, and start an Instagram page.
