On Monday, tragedy struck as the Hon. Johnny Wayne McLarty, a dedicated judge with over 44 years of service in the Lafayette County Justice Court, lost his life in a car accident on University Avenue. His untimely demise resulted from injuries sustained in a one-car incident.
Judge McLarty, who recently secured re-election in November, held the distinction of being the second longest-serving judge in the state of Mississippi.
His judicial career commenced in 1979, and throughout the years, he remained an active member of the MS Judges Association since his induction.
A proud graduate of Oxford High School, Judge McLarty is survived by his two children, Chad McLarty and Deanna McLarty Massey.
His passing marks the end of an era for Mississippi’s judiciary, as he leaves behind a legacy of service and commitment to the pursuit of justice.
