The beginning of a new year always leaves people questioning the future and wondering what’s to come. So when the ball dropped in 2020, it was not a weird thing for my family to wonder. As the year started to progress, everyone went on with their lives, business as usual, until a new opportunity arose.
I am a second-semester sophomore studying integrated marketing communications and specializing in public relations at the University of Mississippi. Due to the severity of the coronavirus, I will be finishing the remainder of my spring semester in the comfort of my own home in Winter Haven, Florida.
An Ole Miss senior journalism major and member of the women’s tennis team is competing in her last collegiate semester. Natalie Suk, a native of the Czech Republic, is a leader on and off the court who is continuing her family’s tennis tradition.
It all started in Jacksonville, Florida at the Bolles College Preparatory School. I was a junior in high school when the college-bound buzz began.
Golf. You either love it or you hate it. You may even perceive it to be boring. I did not grow up a golfer, however it is a hobby and a passion I have developed within the last eight years.
Alden Caroline Easter, popularly known as “Ace,” took a trip down under to fulfill a childhood dream of studying abroad. After spending six months across the globe in Sydney, Australia, she considers the place a third home. It was her nature to gravitate to the sand, sun and ocean, but these new beaches were nothing like those back in America.
While many people attach different words and meaning to states and cities, one UM student who has lived many places, but eventually found his way back to Mississippi, where his parents grew up, describes Oxford as “poised.” “It is a very urbane place,” Ethaniel Ryan Davis said. “Everyone knows everyone, and everyone – for the most part – enjoys each other as well.
For many University of Mississippi students, attending Ole Miss is a family tradition. Students come from all over the United States to carry on their family’s academic legacy. Florida native Michael Cassidy is one.
Two of a Kind: Best friends from the Czech Republic play doubles for the Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Team
It’s fair to say that University of Mississippi students Natalie Suk and Anna Vrbenska are two of a kind. Both are from the Czech Republic. Both are best friends who met when they were both 12 years old. And both now play doubles for the Ole Miss Women’s Tennis Team.
